Grow green fodder yourself

Especially in winter or when there are no suitable meadows nearby, you can grow the required green fodder yourself, which should not be a major problem with the right seeds.

A decorative bird grass container with a meadow herb mixture.

Composition: ryegrass, cocksfoot, tall fescue, meadowgrass, white clover, mallow, meadow caraway, fennel, ribwort, chicory, wild carrot

Instruction:

  • Porcelain bowl fill with soil and moisten with water.
Container with earth
  • Sprinkle seeds on top and press down lightly.

  • Cover tray with plastic wrap and place in a bright place for germination.

After germination, remove the cling film again.

  • Fill one of the porcelain bowls with soil and moisten with water.

The second ceramic bowl can later be filled with water and used as a bird bath.

A modified cage holder with natural wood bar and 6 sturdy bird grass containers.

Holder with seat branch
  • Pull the hardwood rod off the holder.
  • Drill two Ø 3mm holes in the branch at 7cm intervals.
  • Press the holder together a little and insert it into the branch piece.
  • If necessary, you can add a silicone bead on the right and left (see picture) so that the holder rests better on the grid.
Trays for holders
  • Fill freezer boxes with soil.
  • Moisten soil with water.
  • Sprinkle grass seed over the soil (possibly at intervals of a few days).
  • Put the lid on and place in a light place to germinate.

When the grass seeds germinate, remove the lid again.
